Cristo Rey Monument Tour: the Best Viewpoint in Cali
On this experience we'll visit Cristo Rey, one of the most iconic symbols of Cali, standing more than 1,400 meters above sea level. This guided tour picks you up at your accommodation and handles all the logistics: we take care of round-trip transport, so all you have to worry about is enjoying the experience.
From this privileged spot in the Western mountain range, the city opens up between mountains, rivers and neighborhoods full of history.
With a local guide, you'll discover the story behind this imposing sculpture that has watched over the city since 1953, learn about the recent transformation of the eco-park and understand why this place has become a must-see for locals and travelers alike.
The tour includes stops at viewpoints with panoramic views of the whole city, where you can take spectacular photos and connect with the nature surrounding this iconic monument. The tour runs every day; message us on WhatsApp to arrange the time that best fits your trip.
Who is this tour for? For anyone who wants the postcard view of Cali without the strain of the climb. It's 2 hours door to door and physically easy: the private vehicle drives up to the eco-park and, once there, you only walk short stretches around the plaza and viewpoint trails. That makes it a good fit if you're traveling with kids or older adults, or if you're short on time in the city and want a plan that doesn't take up your whole day. Groups are 1 to 6 people, so the guide's talk feels more like a conversation than a lecture.
What to bring? Light clothing, sunscreen, a cap and water: you're over 1,400 meters up, outdoors, with little shade. And your camera or a charged phone, because the 360-degree view over the valley, the mountains and the river is the moment everyone ends up keeping; an official souvenir photo is already included.
What's up there? The statue is 26 meters tall and was built between 1950 and 1953. From its base the view is 360 degrees: the Cauca River valley, the neighborhoods of eastern and western Cali and, on clear days, the Farallones de Cali. There are a few food and craft stalls around, but it isn't very commercialized, and that's part of its charm.
What's the best time to visit Cristo Rey? Between 7 and 10 in the morning. The heat is still manageable, and visibility tends to be better in the mornings, so the panoramic view is much sharper. More people go up on weekends and public holidays; if you prefer a quiet viewpoint, go on a weekday.
How to get to Cristo Rey on your own? The statue sits on Los Cristales hill, in western Cali, about 7 kilometers from downtown, so it's not a walk from the city: you go up by private car or taxi along the access road to the eco-park. If you take a taxi, agree on a round-trip price before going up, because there aren't always cars available at the top for the return. And as with any viewpoint, it's best not to go up alone at quiet hours or with valuables on display.
Why go with us? Because the awkward part of going on your own is exactly the logistics: the ride up, the ride back and the timing. Here it's all taken care of, along with a local guide and medical insurance. If you have accessibility questions, are traveling with a baby or with someone with reduced mobility, message us on WhatsApp before booking and we'll look at it case by case.
